HB 477 would phase out polystyrene (styrofoam) food containers. HB 477 isn’t just about protecting our trout streams, our pristine landscapes, or even our own health; it’s about innovation, entrepreneurship, and the future of Montana’s economy.

Nothing like a little positive reinforcement to clean up the air! Families for a Livable Climate Healthy Schools for Montana Kids group recently planned a No Idling Day at Russell Elementary in Missoula.

The 2025 Climate Advocacy Day - cohosted by over 20 organizations and led by Families for a Livable Climate - saw over 350 Montanans gather at the State Capitol, ready to speak up for their futures and the futures of their families, traditions, and places they hold dear.

Leading up to the 2025 Climate Advocacy Day, we had the privilege of participating in a powerful and inspiring training lead by Montana youth about how to take Climate Action. The training is empowering and educational. It addresses the question of “what can I do?”

Big thanks to CCL (Citizens Climate Lobby) for leading a fantastic training in December, 2024 about effective techniques for lobbying - demystifying the process and explaining how to have a successful and productive conversation with our lawmakers. Join us for the second biennial Climate Advocacy Day at the State Capitol Building Rotunda in Helena on January 24, 2025.

HB 160 is a bill to repeal HB407, a Montana law passed in 2021 that prohibits citizen initiatives and local governments from regulating unnecessary single-use plastics such as carryout bags and polystyrene cups. HB 160 supports local governments’ ability to regulate and to protect citizens from the harms of unnecessary single-use plastics. Allowing local control is critical for climate momentum to take place.

HB 160 (Rep. Ed Stafman, D-Bozeman) repeals this law so that Montanans can use their local governments to protect their right to a clean and healthful environment with prudent policies on single-use plastics.
