Across Montana, people are looking for ways to protect the places and people they love. But concern can feel isolating, and the challenges ahead can seem too big for any one person to face alone.

At Families for a Livable Climate (FLC), we believe lasting change begins when people come together: to listen, learn, lead, and take action alongside one another.

Since 2019, we’ve been building a statewide community where families, young people, and neighbors can turn climate concern into meaningful action. Today, our network includes over 3,000 Montanans and dozens of community partners. Together, we’re building the relationships, skills, and grassroots power that make lasting change possible.

What becomes possible when we act together?

In 2026, FLC and partners helped turn community concern into tangible results across Montana:

  • Protected a local ballpark from artificial turf. After gathering more than 550 petition signatures and working alongside local partners, volunteers helped secure the withdrawal of an artificial turf proposal at Ogren Park.

  • Helped shape Montana’s energy future. We mobilized community members to participate in the Public Service Commission’s review of NorthWestern Energy’s long-term energy plan, which the Commission returned for revisions.

  • Helped organize against a proposed data center in Bonner. The project was ultimately shut down, and Missoula County subsequently adopted a temporary moratorium on data centers.

  • Helped people and institutions move money away from fossil fuels. Our Sustainability-Based Investing working group has contributed to $31 million in cumulative fossil-fuel divestment since the program began.

  • Invested in the next generation. After months of planning with young people and education partners, we launched the first cohort of our Youth Climate Mentorship Network.

Behind these milestones are countless conversations, volunteer hours, partnerships, and acts of care. Campaign victories don’t happen on their own. They grow from people who have the relationships, confidence, and support to act together.

We’re entering an important new chapter. With an expanded staff team and a new strategic plan to guide our work, we’re building the capacity to support more local leaders and strengthen a more connected climate movement across Montana.

Your support will help us:

  • Grow grassroots leadership. Equip volunteers with the training, tools, mentorship, and practical support to lead community projects and campaigns.

  • Expand statewide organizing. Deepen partnerships and grow volunteer-led efforts in Bozeman, the Bitterroot, the Flathead Valley, and other Montana communities.

  • Support young people. Build connections between high school and college students through our Youth Climate Mentorship Network, helping young Montanans develop the skills and relationships to lead.

  • Bring people together for climate action. Prepare for Climate Advocacy Day at the Capitol on February 19, 2027, and help Montanans make their voices heard on the decisions shaping our shared future.

  • Make climate action more accessible and sustainable. Provide opportunities for connection, learning, and care — including support for travel, stipends, and other barriers that can keep people from participating.

This is how we build a movement that can endure: not through any single campaign or moment, but by helping more people find their place, develop their leadership, and work together toward a livable future.
