During Families for a Livable Climate’s recent Clean School Bus Drive ‘N Ride event in partnership with Moms Clean Air Force & Montana Health Professionals for a Healthy Climate, folks gathered around electric school buses at Harlow's Truck Center, at the Wye outside of Missoula.

Billings Climate week, a week before the launch of the historic Held v State of Montana youth-led climate lawsuit, brought Dr. Steve Running to Billings to share his expensive knowledge about climate system changes for a weeklong climate action extravaganza!

On June 2, 2023, plaintiffs and an attorney from the historic Held v. State of Montana youth-led climate lawsuit joined this live virtual conversation to answer questions and share their experiences with peers and supporters across the state. It was a great opportunity to hear directly from plaintiffs about what it's been like to participate in the FIRST youth-led and the FIRST constitutional climate lawsuit to go to trial in the nation! On May 30, we gathered with partners, storytellers, and community members to share and hear stories of hope, grief, loss, strength, solutions, and courage at our Missoula Climate Stories live event. Read more about the experience and watch the recording here.

We were blown away by our May 1 “Federal Money for Montana Schools: Solar and EV Buses” webinar! It was an incredible conversation with some amazing guests.

Some highlights: We heard from government experts about funding opportunities. We heard stories from Sam Spector of Sweet Grass High School in Big Timber, MT, about the massive savings they’ve experienced from their solar array and other projects. We heard from Transportation Directory Bethany Aurin from West Grand School District in Colorado who gave their EV buses a glowing review for performance in snow, ice, and more!

On January 20, a coalition of 17 organizations across Montana convened in Helena, centering climate stories and action at the Capitol’s very first Climate Advocacy Day. The rally drew over 300 attendees from throughout the state, including Billings, Livingston, the Flathead, Butte, Bozeman, and Missoula. Singing songs and welcoming speakers from around the state, we gathered to have a public conversation about climate change in one of our most important public spaces–our state government. 

Over this past summer, we canvassed for signatures on our NorthWestern Energy letter in Helena, Butte, and Missoula, and had incredible conversations with moms, dads, grandparents, energy workers, small business owners, and more. As a result, on September 23, we delivered a letter to NorthWestern Energy’s Board of Directors and leadership bearing over 1,000 signatures, asking the company to move to clean, affordable, and renewable energy.
