Our Hearts Go Out to LA
The 7 wildfires blazing through Los Angeles this January, exacerbated by the hottest year on record paired with extreme weather patterns have had devastating impacts. Over 12,000 homes and businesses have been lost; millions of people still without power. This massive castraophe is likely to be the most expensive natural disaster in US history - fueled by decades of greed, fossil fuel use, and the powers that protect both.
In the middle of winter, we are witnessing both the LA fires in contrast with extreme cold temperatures from unusual polar vortexes creating -40 degrees in some US states in the same week.
Our compassion and solace go out to everyone being harmed by these fires and our deepest gratitude go out to all the service workers, firefighters, and first responders working tirelessly to help others.
We HAVE to work together.
As individuals and families, we can donate to local nonprofits and mutual aid. We can help rebuild and donate clothing, food, toys and supplies. These are things we can do from wherever we are.
