Be a part of climate action in your own neighborhood! Missoula County, City of Missoula and
Climate Smart Missoula are looking for volunteers to collect heat data this summer.
The projected campaign day is Saturday, July 19, with a backup date of Saturday Aug. 2. The
campaign day is weather dependent and we will be relying on forecasts from the local weather
service for confirmation of a day that will be extremely hot with a low chance of rain or smoke.
Volunteers will drive or help drivers navigate a pre-scheduled route during 3 windows of the
campaign day with a simple sensor in order to gather temperature and humidity data across
Missoula County.
This data will be used to produce heat maps that will identify hotspots in our community where
temperatures are highest throughout the day. Knowing where the hotspots are will allow for
better, more targeted outreach and resources to those who need it most. Extreme heat is
incredibly dangerous, but we can avoid that danger with proper planning and action.
