A Youth Climate Summit is bringing Montana high school students together for a two-day conference. Paralleling a professional conference, students will contribute to discussion panels, listen to keynote speakers, and participate in hands-on learning experiences.
When: Thursday, October 12 – Friday, October 13
Where: Livingston, Montana – Various locations have been reserved for the conference, including a block of hotel rooms, conference locations, etc.
Who: Montana youth grades 9-12
The Park County Environmental Council and the Park High Green Initiative will host a youth climate summit for students from around the state of Montana.
By investing in passionate young leaders, we hope to build the capacity and community expertise in young people needed to proactively address climate change issues by helping students feel empowered and a part of this place. This two-day conference will bring together like-minded youth to learn from each other, various climate professionals, and storytellers of all kinds.
Each year the students with the Green Initiative identify one overarching project to work on. Last year, the students declared that their goal was to attend a youth climate summit, but the closest to be found was 1,000-plus miles away. So, they made it their goal to host a summit. Students have been a key part of planning this event and have helped to build a coalition of partners and planners from across Montana.
UPDATE! Thanks to a generous donation from the Rieschel Foundation, the cost of the summit is now FREE for students and includes all summit sessions and meals. Teachers accompanying their students may also attend at no cost and will receive 6 hours of OPI Professional Learning and Renewal Credits.
