Shading Our Schools
The Healthy Schools working group continues to prioritize student health by tackling issues related to air quality and heat relief around schools. Their current focus is addressing the growing risks of extreme heat on student performance and well-being. Partnering with Sentinel High School teacher Ezra Shearer, who attended a national conference on K-12 heat impacts at Harvard, the group is helping implement cooling solutions through greening school campuses. Thanks to a Transformational Learning Grant and Trees for Missoula, Sentinel students planted 35 new trees this Fall to provide shade and reduce classroom heat!
Sentinel High School students spent two days this week getting their hands dirty — planting 35 new trees to restore their campus after losing several in a July 2024 windstorm.
