"The Story of Plastic" Virtual Screening & Discussion

SOP_Promotional_Blog_Featured_1200x600-3.jpg

Please join Families for a Livable Climate, Climate Smart Missoula, Ecology Project International, and Home ReSource for a screening and conversation about the plastics crisis, its relationship to the climate crisis, what’s happening in Montana, and empowering ways to take action and make a difference.

In this unprecedented moment, voices of activists and marginalized communities must be heard to stand up to big oil and businesses perpetuating the plastic crisis.

The Story of Plastic takes a sweeping look at the man-made crisis of plastic pollution and the worldwide effect it has on the health of our planet and the people who inhabit it . We hope the film serves as a tool to foster connection, spark dialogue, and create action.

After you get your ticket via EventBrite, we will send you a screening link and video conference link, as well as ways to get involved in the global movement and ban plastics for good.

Here's how the screening and discussion work:

1. Get your free ticket via EventBrite.

2. Attendees will receive a link to stream the film 48-72 hours before the June 8th event start time. The link will be delivered to you at the email address you use to RSVP on EventBrite.

3. On June 8th, we will reconvene at 4 p.m. on Zoom for a panel discussion; you will receive a separate link for that event alongside the streaming link.

Heidi Porras-CR.jpg

HEIDI PORRAS, Coordinadora de Programas, Ecology Project International (EPI México)

Heidi studied Marine Biology in La Paz, Mexico, specializing in Pinniped Ecology. Her passion for nature led her to work in outdoor settings and eventually to environmental education. For the past 8 years, she has been working in Ecology Project International (EPI), dedicating her time in designing and facilitating environmental education programs as well as collaborating with scientists, community members, and other organizations in conservation issues and in the creation of more sustainable communities.

In 2017 EPI got involved in the campaign #Desplastificate along with 23 other NGOs with the goal of reducing the use of single-use plastic such as straws, styrofoam, and plastic bags in Baja California Sur. Using different strategies the alliance put a lot of effort into communicating to the community the impact that plastic was doing to the environment. The alliance was also able to submit to congress a single-use plastic ban which in July of 2018 got accepted unanimously, restricting the use of these 3 materials in all of Baja California Sur.
