Earth Day Action:
7 Ways Montanans Can Engage on Climate
1. Find a climate action community that inspires and supports you. Connecting in community = resiliency. Montana Climate organizations: livableclimate.org/montanaclimate
2. Talk about climate change regularly with friends and family. Talking about climate change effectively is crucial for building support for bold action. Nervous about those conversations? Find resources to help here: livableclimate.org/our-livable-future. And check out Katharine Hayhoe’s TED Talk: “The Most Important Thing You Can Do to Fight Climate Change”
3. Donate to or volunteer with a Montana climate org:
Families for a Livable Climate: livableclimate.org
Climate Smart Missoula: missoulaclimate.org
Other Montana Climate organizations: livableclimate.org/montanaclimate
4. Commit to eliminating or reducing your big-ticket emissions. If you have the means:
Switch to an electric vehicle, and/or bike, walk and bus whenever possible. (Pro tips: Flanagan Motors sells used EVs, and Missoula Bicycle Works sells e-bikes!)
Switch to renewable energy for your home. Montana Renewable Energy Association is a great place to start for info!
Swap out fossil-fuel appliances for electric ones. Check out ElectrifyMissoula.org for information on resources on electrification.
Move your investments (and banking) out of fossil fuels. Check out “Decarbonize Your Money” event recording here: livableclimate.org/our-livable-future
5. Join a project already underway, or step up to lead in your field - or another place where climate isn’t yet being addressed. See the Climate Venn Diagram below to generate ideas!
6. Challenge the fossil-fuel industry to transition to clean energy. Vote. Speak out. Sign this letter from MT families to NorthWestern Energy’s Board and leadership: livableclimate.org/nwe
7. Share your climate story. Join the chorus of voices building momentum for change. Submit your climate story - video, audio, or written! - via MTClimateStories.org.
You matter; our shared future matters; and no person or action is too small to make a difference.
Who better to speak up or take action on behalf of our community’s future than you?
